Pill Community Choir was founded in 2008 by Wendy Sergeant. Over the years we have learned lots of different songs, performed at events around the village and local area and raised lots of money for Charity! The choir was taken over in 2024 by Dan Pate and rehearses weekly on a Tuesday in Pill Community Centre.
Pill Community Choir is for everyone, regardless of previous singing experience. Studies have shown the physical and mental benefits of group singing, from stress relief to improved memory. It's also a great way to connect with others in the community and raise money for charity, all while making a fantastic sound together!

When/where are rehearsals? Rehearsals take place every Tuesday evening during term time from 7:45 - 9:15 at Pill Community Centre, Church Pl, Pill, Bristol BS20 0AE
Can I try the choir out before joining? Yes, you can sign up for a free taster from our "join us" page. We'll be in contact via email to let you know when our next rehearsal is.
Do I need to bring anything with me? Just yourself and your voice! I'd also recommend bringing a bottle of water, and some people like to bring a pencil for making notes on word sheets.
Is the venue accessible? Yes, the venue is fully accessible.
Is there parking? There is a small car park at the venue which fills up quickly. There is also parking nearby at the precinct, or on streets near the venue.
What if I can't sing? We believe that there is no such thing as someone who can't sing! You may have been discouraged in the past, or feel like you are not confident with your voice, but singing is just like any skill - you get better by doing it! A choir is the perfect place to develop your voice as you will be singing with lots of other people. The more you sing, the more confident you will get!
Will I have to audition or know how to read music? No! You'll sing from word sheets and be taught everything by ear in a big group.
Will I have to sing on my own? No, you'll be singing in a big group with lots of friendly other people.
How do I know if I like singing higher, in the middle or lower? Don't worry if you're not sure yet, we'll give you lots of fun warm ups and exercises to learn more about your voice. You will discover and develop your vocal range over time.
What kind of songs will we sing? We'll be singing a wide range of songs from across the decades, all in glorious harmony! The members area contains a form that choir members can fill in to suggest their own songs for us to sing.
How do I sign up to join the choir? We hope you enjoy your taster session and are keen to sign up as a member of the choir! You can do this using this link. We'll then be in touch with more info, including the password to the members area.
How much does it cost to join? After your taster session you can sign up to join the choir for £20.99 per month, paid as a direct debit which you can cancel anytime.
Can I pay for each session individually rather than subscribing? Unfortunately we don't routinely offer pay-per-session as an option, as the subscription fee covers membership of the choir including concerts, socials and online materials as well as the rehearsals.
Why do I need to keep paying my subscription during times of the year when there are fewer rehearsals (eg. over the summer holidays)? The subscription fee is based on a yearly cost for 32 rehearsals, concerts, a summer workshop and online materials divided up into monthly payments for convenience. This means that you pay the same cost when there are more choir events happening (eg. towards the end of a term we will often have rehearsals and several performances happening in the same month) as when there isn't as much happening (like over the summer). Spreading the cost like this hopefully makes payment more simple, managable and helps with choir adminstration too.
What if I need to miss a rehearsal? Our members area contains high quality recordings of each part of the songs we are learning, plus warm up and singing technique videos. If you miss a session you are welcome to find out what we've covered during the rehearsal from our members area and use the resources to practice at home.
I have other commitments on some Tuesdays but would still like to sign up! Please email pillcommunitychoir@gmail.com to discuss other options if you are keen to join but know you will routinely miss some sessions.
I'd love to join but can't afford it. We would never want finance to be a barrier to enjoying singing! We offer a conscession rate for those in financial difficulty - please contact pillcommunitychoir@gmail.com to find out more.
What if I need to take a longer break from choir? If you would like to remain a member but need to take a longer break from the choir for any reason please email pillcommunitychoir@gmail.com.
Can I change the day that my direct debit comes out of my account? Yes! Please contact pillcommunitychoir@gmail.com stating which day you would like to change your direct debit to.
How do I cancel my membership? You can cancel your membership at any time. Please contact pillcommunitychoir@gmail.com with the subject line "membership cancellation". You can also cancel directly via your bank - please do let us know via email as well for our records.
